From the parking lot it looked like a fun challenge just to get on the dunes. Mason, Uncle Josh, and Dad went to the dunes for some treasure hunting. The objects lost by people on the dunes are often uncovered in the fall and spring. Sitting on top of the sand you can find washers, nuts, bolts, even small pieces of glass. Whatever is lost finds its way to the surface.
In the parking lot Mason discovered how thin the parking lot was. Every year the blacktop floats on the sand and water beneath. It is easily broken each spring. You shouldn't build on a sandy foundation or so I've been told.
Uncle Josh taking a turn pulling the covered wagon. Kept Mason out of the wind and because of the sunshine it stayed much warmer inside the wagon.
He was doing just fine in his luxury wagon. Goldfish and animal crackers kept his energy up. He could jump out whenever he spotted a treasure field.
Of course he found some trees and made sure to climb the good ones. He walked a lot and made sure he threw plenty of pieces of driftwood into the water.
At times he just sat in the warm wagon while uncle Josh and Dad hunted for treasure.
Not to be outdone Mason searched for treasure too. In total he found 84 cents and many random objects the other two would have never thought to pick up.
You can see Lake Michigan in the background. Ice, water, ice, it was pretty cool looking.
We could not get him to look at the camera while hunting for treasure. Too many things to discover. Pieces of metal which could pop tires, washers, springs, ratchet straps, 5/8 craftsman ratcheting wrench, dune flag, and many more items were taken off the dunes Saturday. A great day out.
Madelyn's tongue was out and about all Saturday as well.
